uncertainty

While walking today, I took several photos. The one I picked to work on as my picture for 06/18 wasn’t the best, but it had the most impact on me. When I see people in need on the street, my reaction is to look past them, mostly based on the theory of personal responsibility. When someone complains about bad things that happen to them because of their bad behavior, I might be sorry it happened to them, but not sorry for them. However, when I looked at this photo, I saw a guy pushing everything he owns. His basket looked organized, and his organization made me feel connected with him. That could be me after making a huge mistake. I’d consider what I needed, pack it up and press on. I didn’t do anything to help this guy or even acknowledge his existence except to snap a picture of him, like a flower, tree, or light pole. Working on this picture made me consider making some changes in my behavior and how I interact with the impoverished.
