Hunter

While walking down Girard on my way to UNM, an unexpected and thrilling event occurred. I witnessed a hawk swoop down on a pigeon in the parking lot, taking it into the air. As I fumbled for my camera to capture the moment, the pigeon fell from the hawk’s grasp and landed near me on the ground. The hawk then perched in a nearby tree, patiently waiting for me to leave so it could retrieve its prey. Fortunately, I now had my camera ready and snapped a photo of this Cooper’s Hawk, which serves as my 03/02/23 postcard. This encounter reminded me of the intricate balance between predator and prey. Although I empathized with the unfortunate fate of the pigeon, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of connection with the hawk. It may be the innate animalistic nature within me.
