Aerial Earthmover

In the days before we parted ways with our motorcycle, we used to frequent two-lane highways crisscrossing New Mexico weekly. Since selling the bike, these trips have been rare; today, we traded our usual walk for a drive, passing through landscapes scarred by the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fires en route to Mora. Our journey along Highway 94 presented us with an unexpected spectacle: a pair of helicopters engaged in dirt relocation. As they released their earthen payloads, a veil of dust cloaked the area, reducing visibility. My postcard for 07/15/23 captures this event. It features one of the helicopters, a distant figure burdened by a hanging load of dirt.
