Helen’s Bakery has been a memorable presence for the past 40 years or more, even though it has perpetually appeared on the verge of shutting down. It’s one of those places with a lot of charm and a local fan base. After an incident about 30 years ago, we ceased eating there. I was walking past early and once more assumed it had shut down again, and I shot a couple of pictures. But, in reality, it simply didn’t open until 9:00 AM. My postcard for 04/14/23 features Helen’s Bakery, located on San Pedro near the fairgrounds.
