While watching a bee extract pollen from a cactus, I initially mistook a jutting cactus thorn as a giant stinger. I tracked the bee’s journey around the cactus, snapping a few photographs. My postcard for 06/18/23 features one of these shots. The unexpected sight of the bee skewered by a cactus thorn was a stark reminder that insects face hurdles in their efforts and make mistakes as we do.
